Aerial Yoga

Aerial Yoga is a fun form of fitness that uses suspended hammocks to support movement and postures.

The hammocks offer numerous benefits, including deep tissue massage and relief from joint tension. Inverted poses alleviate pressure on the spine.

A variety of poses are practiced during the workshop. Some of the poses are done on the mat with hammock support. Other poses will be in the air.

Aerial Yoga: Slow Flow + Fly with Bobbi McDougall
Friday, June 12 from 6:00-7:15 p.m.
Slow Flow + Fly blends grounded, yoga + somatic movement with aerial work using the hammocks. Expect steady flow, time to linger with curiosity in shapes, while Bobbi intentionally encourages unstructured play throughout; something that is truly missing in most adults’ lives. The natural sway of the hammock gives your body a steady rhythm to settle into—which can ease some of the background tension you didn’t even realize you were carrying. When your body experiences lift and containment, it can lean out of constant effort—breath expands, tension drops, and your nervous system has the potential to settle, repair, and restore. Join Bobbi for an evening of functional movement, sneaky strength, play, laughter, and release. The cost of the workshop is $40. Heritage Community Fitness members receive a 10% discount. Space is limited. Learn more and register.

Private Group Workshops
Private aerial yoga sessions are offered by Stefanie for groups of up to 12 people. No aerial yoga or yoga experience is necessary—all levels of yoga practice are welcome. Modifications are provided to meet the group’s needs. Contact us to learn more.

To answer three of the most frequently asked questions:

Is aerial yoga safe for everyone? Aerial yoga is not suitable for those who have acute spinal injuries or disc herniation, eye conditions such as glaucoma, retinal issues, or cataracts, high/low blood pressure, severe cardiovascular conditions, a history of seizures or epilepsy, have recently had botox or surgery, or are pregnant. Please consult your physician before adding aerial yoga to your fitness routine.

Is the hammock strong enough to hold me? Our hammocks are certified to hold up to 1000 pounds and are secured to the ceiling using an advanced suspension system created specifically for aerial yoga.

What should I wear to an aerial yoga class? Students should wear clothes that they are most comfortable wearing for yoga practice and accommodate a wide range of movements (leggings, long-sleeve top, etc.). We do recommend moisture-wicking fabrics (not cotton) to help keep you comfortable in the warm environment. Clothing with velcro and/or zippers are prohibited in class. Long-sleeve tops are recommended to help protect and preserve the hammock fabric.
